Once a fictional drama, now a docudrama...
Yes that's right. The idea has changed. There has been major developments involving all aspects of the pre-production stages. First of all, the name has changed.
Red or Black
I have decided to title the short film Red or Black. Although it's the name for a past television game show, this has a different meaning and purpose. Red or Black is symbolised with the use of the roulette wheel that has colour coded numbers. As well as the title being associated to the gambling game roulette, the colours also have tragic connotations of danger death. I believe this symbolic addition will highlight the consequences of the addiction.
The format has changed. I will now be creating either a docudrama or a docufiction. Fictional elements will still be included however the short film will also be shown through the format of a documentary. I have contacted several clients from the gambling industry that will be happy to contribute to the interview process within the documentary segment.
Peer feedback has enabled me to focus on online gambling as the main focus throughout the short film. With additional primary and secondary research, it is essential that I make online gambling a focus. To do this, I will create an online casino for the fictional element of the production. To do this I will cast five individuals who will be sitting down on electronic devices whilst online gambling. Within the same room, I will place a roulette dealer who will be operating a roulette table whilst a film crew are recording the online casino. This symbolic setting and layout will hopefully create the necessary awareness of how harmful online gambling truly is.
